guangzhou. china. october 30th - november 1st

the second time here is also just a stopover before the next part of our journey. we spend two nights here relaxing, regrouping and catching up before preparing to go visit with judy in chengdu. we make it to a new area in the city center (yes in search of a vegetarian restaurant....), which we find. it is a lovely restaurant with really good food and very kind staff. we wander a bit and come across a really interesting feature in this neighbourhood, on beijing lu shopping street. when building up this area, they uncovered a series of ancient roadways and gates dating back quite far in chinese history, so they excavated parts of it, and covered it over with plexiglass which is incorporated in to the walking area for people to view. there are signs dating the different levels of the excavation, and some information on a sign at the foot of the street explaining the history of the area. it is really well done, and pretty fascinating to see.
